The Hope Center began in what was once the Rutherford County Creamery providing food, clothes, furniture, and counseling to those in need on a daily basis. We also provided showers for the homeless as well as the use of a washer and dryer for them to wash their clothes.
In 2004, we opened the Lazarus Project, a 12-month live-in Christian discipleship program for men and in 2006, the Esther Project, a Christian discipleship program for women. The residents of these programs were in need of help to fight drug and alcohol addictions, as well as other addictions. As we have progressed along the Lazarus has become our main ministries of the Hope Center. Because of the many demands this program placed on our staff and resources we have had to adjust our time and focus mainly to handle this ministry. Combining the two main facilities on the north and south side of town seemed to be the most efficient way to better serve the community. So the sale of the building at 714 West Main St. where the Hope Center was housed took place in September 2007 and the sale of the north campus is pending. We feel to better fulfil what God has called us as a body and to more efficiently manage that call, we are well under way to relocate the Hope Center, the Lazarus Project, as well as the ministries of The Carpenter’s House Church to one location where the entire ministry can be housed and have the necessary room to expand.
The Lazarus Project is what God has called us to in our community efforts, to reach those in our society that have become outcast, because of their addictive behaviors. These men come to us from all walks of life but with a very common problem. Seeing this need we have chosen to serve our community by turning men from their devastating past to a future with hope, thus the Hope Center.
Our counseling service continues to provide counseling for those with counseling needs.
The goal and mission continues to be to turn peoples lives around and help them to be set free and have hope for a new life. While we try to provide for the physical needs of our community, we realize that the only thing that can help people rise above their present situation is Jesus Christ. We help any individual regardless of their spiritual standing, however our #1 priority and reason for existence is to share the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We also plan to open a home for children, troubled teens, and families. In addition, we plan to expand the Lazarus Project to 100 residents and the open the Esther Project, a Christian discipleship program for women.
To reach the poor, the under served, the imprisoned, and the troubled youth of our community through the love of Jesus.
